Description

The Mantis plough attachment makes deeper furrows and higher mounds. This attachment helps you create ideal growing conditions for your potatoes, leeks, etc.

Potatoes and leeks, for example, require regular attention to ensure they grow in a deep planted environment. This is where the Mantis plough can really help. Like a plough, set the furrower to the required depth, allow the tiller to move forward and the plough blade creates a wide furrow. This action can also be used to earth up around rows of potato plants.

The plough blade can be adjusted to any of the five height settings very easily, by removing a clevis pin, moving the blade and then re-inserting the pin. The depth of the furrows can therefore be easily controlled, from shallow rows to deep furrows.

The Plough is attached to the Mantis tiller in addition to the standard tiller tines, and will plough the earth up to 18 -20"/ 45-50cm wide.

Create a furrow, plant your seed potatoes and use the Mantis plough to create a second furrow alongside the first planted row. The action of creating the second row will earth over the first row. As you move across your vegetable plot, each successive row can be created whilst earthing over the previous row, saving hours of work. This is also achieved with no laborious digging or bending down.

For over 40 years and approaching two million units sold, the Mantis tiller is still assembled in the original factory by a longstanding and dedicated workforce. In spite of its many imitators and there are quite a few mini tillers offered by other manufacturers the Mantis tiller is still the best-selling tiller in the UK and the world.

Its the patented “serpentine” (curved) tines that still set the Mantis tiller apart from other tillers, giving it the ability to cut through sod, tough soil and even vegetation with ease. (Other small tillers use a scaled-down version of the “bolo” bent tines found on big, heavy tillers, a design that is significantly less effective on a lightweight machine.)

The Mantis tiller’s high-quality craftsmanship and powerful commercial-grade engine consistently get rave reviews. And gardeners are pleased with the handy way the Mantis Tiller tills garden plots and effortlessly weeds around trees and landscaping.

Like the proverbial Swiss Army knife, the mighty Mantis tiller can effectively perform a wide variety of tasks. He came back to the UK only to find he couldn’t buy the Mantis Tiller in the UK. Thus, he decided to import a few on his own to sell through his existing business. The result? UK gardeners embraced the little tiller in much the same way Americans had.
